Overview
The Shop Foreman role demands a high level of organization and multi-tasking ability. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, directing, evaluating, and performing the repair and servicing of equipment — all while maintaining shop organization and cleanliness and keeping a thorough inventory of tools, equipment, and materials.
You will be in regular contact with company employees who rely on this equipment and need materials delivered to job sites. You'll also be responsible for keeping your team informed of upcoming needs. As with all positions at Americana Custom Homes, we expect our team members to be versed in multiple aspects of the business and to lend a hand wherever needed, without hesitation.
Expectations
- Cleaning of company vehicles, equipment, restrooms, and the shop.
- Organization of shop tools and materials — everything has its proper place and should be cleaned and put away after every use.
- Thorough shop cleaning, including moving items to clean under and around them.
- Maintaining efficiencies through multi-tasking, route planning, setting daily goals, and logging maintenance and inventory.
- Assisting with demo work and providing a helping hand at job starts, trim time, material delivery and returns, and site cleaning and staging.
Job Tasks
- Cleaning of company vehicles (including interiors), equipment, restrooms (at minimum twice per week), and shop floors — floors are expected to be spotless and all items returned to their proper place.
- Keeping a log of vehicle and equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Scheduling and taking vehicles in for oil changes and routine maintenance.
- Greasing of equipment and truck bodies.
- Ensuring fuel cans, propane tanks, and the fuel tank are kept full.
- Monitoring and filling DEF in diesel trucks.
- Keeping inventory of equipment, tools, fasteners, and materials.
- Preparing equipment, tools, and materials for upcoming jobs.
- Picking up and delivering materials to job sites.
- Maintaining shop and site grounds, including mowing, weed whacking, edging, and trimming.
- Returning extra materials.
- Scheduling meetings with team members to provide updates on progress or upcoming costs and needs.
- Ensuring the garbage dumpster is full and placed out for bi-weekly pickup (on non-payroll weeks).
- Cleaning and organizing the shop desk.
- Replenishing first aid kits throughout the shop, office, and all vehicles.
- Ensuring fire extinguishers are in their proper locations in vehicles and the shop at all times.
- Managing tool and equipment repairs and warranty tracking.
- Cleaning out the refrigerator on garbage days.
- Picking up debris around buildings and the lot.
- Making sure the warehouse is locked up at the end of each day.
Qualifications & Skills
- Fluent English required; Spanish is a plus.
- Valid Driver's License and Social Security Number.
- Must have a reliable form of transportation to arrive at our site or shop by 8:00 AM each morning.
- Construction experience required.
- Ability to lift and carry 60+ pounds of material and equipment.
- Strong work ethic; construction experience is a plus.
- Background checks and drug screening are required for all applicants.
Compensation
This position pays $17.00–$20.00 per hour.
